Built in 1855, Adam Lohry's historic brick buildings in Lotus have been a general store, post office, blacksmith shop, barber shop and a bed & breakfast. It's most recent incarnation is, by far, the most joyful and is infused with a tangible sense of love and magic. Café Mahjaic and Lotus Inn, located on this riverside property, are now a life long dream of John and Gina Metropulos.
Born in Illinois, John cooked in restaurants at an early age. When he moved to Grass Valley in 1990, he had the opportunity to attend the California Culinary Academy in SanFrancisco in 1991. This schooling also included a semester internship in Hawaii working in five different restaurants on the island.
Upon graduation from the Academy in 1994, John attended All Outdoors Rafting Guide School in Lotus where he met Gina. In between traveling and living in Grass Valley, John worked in the restaurant industry and Gina began a career in the medical field. They returned to Lotus in 2004 to start their adventure with Café Mahjaic and Lotus Inn. Since this time, a lot of changes have been made and renovations are still in progress.
With the help of family and friends, John, Gina, Henry and Charlotte are keeping their dream alive.
